Job Overview
BFC is recruiting a Technical Sales Engineer to develop new business and manage customer relationships for our custom bulk material screening, feeding, separation and conveying systems, serving construction, waste recycling and energy markets across North America. Unlike general sales roles, this position blends deep technical knowledge with consultative selling: you will listen to customer production pain points, analyse their material flow and site layout, work with our engineering team to propose tailored machinery solutions, prepare accurate quotations and lead projects from initial inquiry through order handover to manufacturing. Our customers include quarry operators, recycling facility owners, energy processors, general contractors and system integrators. You will be the primary technical point of contact, build trusted long-term partnerships, identify upsell opportunities for service contracts, spare parts and equipment retrofits, and contribute directly to sustainable sales growth for our 38-year-old Canadian manufacturing company.
Key Responsibilities
Respond to incoming RFQs and customer inquiries, collect complete project data including material type, particle size distribution, required throughput, available footprint, power limits and budget expectations. Conduct on-site customer audits and plant assessments to observe existing material processing workflows, identify bottlenecks and define equipment requirements. Collaborate with mechanical engineering to develop technical proposals, select suitable standard or custom screening/feeding/separation equipment, and prepare detailed commercial quotations with lead time, warranty and scope boundaries. Deliver technical presentations, CAD layout drawings and solution demonstrations to customer engineering, operation and purchasing teams. Negotiate commercial terms within company guidelines, clarify specifications, resolve customer technical objections and guide qualified opportunities toward order closing. Maintain a CRM database of leads, customer communications, project status and follow-up schedules. Track active projects after order confirmation, communicate progress updates to clients and coordinate handover between sales, engineering, production and service teams. Develop territory sales strategy, attend industry trade shows and networking events, and nurture relationships with distributors and industry partners. Identify aftermarket opportunities such as maintenance agreements, wear part packages, equipment upgrades and retrofits. Provide customer feedback back to the engineering team to guide product improvements and new feature development. Work closely with the sales manager to achieve assigned revenue targets and contribute to annual business planning.
Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related technical field. Minimum 3 years of technical sales, application engineering or project sales experience within aggregate, recycling, mineral or bulk material handling equipment industries. Solid understanding of screening, feeding, conveying and solid separation principles for granular bulk materials. Ability to interpret process flow diagrams, capacity calculations and basic equipment layouts. Outstanding consultative selling, negotiation and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple active bids and customer accounts simultaneously. Willingness to travel for customer site visits and trade shows across Canada and northern USA. Fluent professional English communication, both written and verbal. Familiarity with quotation software and CRM tools is preferred. Results-oriented, self-motivated and customer-focused mindset. Valid Canadian work authorization required.
What We Offer
Attractive compensation package including base salary + competitive sales commission structure, performance bonus, full health and dental benefits, RRSP matching, paid vacation and professional development budget for industry events and training. You will work from our Mississauga headquarters with flexible hybrid arrangements, supported by our in-house engineering, production and service teams. At BFC, we do not sell generic off-the-shelf machinery; every sale is a custom-engineered solution, so you will work on varied, challenging projects and build lasting relationships with industrial decision-makers. Our company has built a reputation for reliable, safe, precise material processing systems since 1988, and you will represent a well-respected Canadian manufacturer. If you combine engineering knowledge with a passion for solving customer production challenges and growing profitable business, we encourage you to submit your resume.
