Field Service & Commissioning Technician

Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site

Job Overview

We are hiring a Field Service & Commissioning Technician to deliver installation, startup, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and emergency repair support for BFC screening, feeding, separation and conveying systems. Our equipment operates in quarries, waste recycling plants, energy processing facilities and material yards across Canada and the northern United States. This role is our frontline technical ambassador: you will travel to customer sites, commission new custom processing lines, perform scheduled maintenance, diagnose mechanical, electrical and control faults, and train customer operators to run and maintain our machinery safely. You will work closely with our engineering and production teams to report recurring field issues, capture feedback for product improvement, and ensure every BFC installation achieves stable, accurate, safe operation for our clients. This position is perfect for a hands-on industrial technician who enjoys independent site work, mechanical problem-solving and direct customer interaction.

Key Responsibilities

Travel to customer job sites to perform equipment commissioning, mechanical alignment, calibration, initial startup testing and operator training for new bulk material handling systems. Carry out routine preventive maintenance inspections, lubrication, wear component checks and safety audits on existing screens, feeders, conveyors and separators. Diagnose mechanical, vibration, drive, electrical and sensor faults during emergency breakdown calls, identify root causes and complete repairs, part replacements and adjustments. Complete all service documentation including site inspection forms, fault reports, test logs, spare parts usage records and customer sign-off documents after each service visit. Explain repair findings, maintenance recommendations and safe operating procedures clearly to plant supervisors and site operators. Coordinate with our internal service team to arrange spare part shipments, schedule follow-up visits and escalate complex technical problems to our engineering department. Follow all site safety rules, lockout-tagout procedures and BFC safety protocols on every worksite, and maintain a clean, professional work area at all times. Identify aftermarket sales opportunities including service contracts, wear part kits and equipment upgrades, and share qualified leads with our sales team. Keep your service vehicle, hand tools, test instruments and safety gear well maintained and organized for every site assignment. Participate in internal training programs to stay updated on new product designs, control systems and updated service procedures.

Requirements & Qualifications

College diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Mechanics, Millwright, or related heavy equipment trade. Minimum 3 years of field service experience with industrial processing, aggregate, recycling or bulk material handling machinery. Strong hands-on skills for mechanical disassembly, alignment, bearing replacement, belt adjustment and vibration troubleshooting. Basic understanding of industrial electrical circuits, variable frequency drives and machine safety systems. Ability to read mechanical drawings, wiring schematics and operation manuals. Valid Canadian driver’s license with clean driving record, willingness for overnight regional travel (approximately 50–60% of working time). Ability to lift heavy components, work at heights, and follow strict industrial site safety regulations. Excellent customer service and communication skills, confident explaining technical concepts to non-technical plant staff. Self-directed, reliable and calm under pressure during urgent emergency service calls. Ability to write clear service reports in English. Valid Canadian work authorization required.
