Job Overview
BFC is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team, focusing on custom vibrating screens, feeders, separators, conveyors and complete bulk material processing lines for construction, waste recycling and energy sectors. Founded in 1988, we build robust, safe and precision-engineered processing equipment for industrial clients across North America and globally. In this role, you will turn customer operational requirements into practical, manufacturable mechanical designs, collaborate closely with sales, production and service teams, and deliver reliable custom solutions that meet tight performance, safety and budget targets. You will own design work from concept review, calculation, 3D modelling, drawing release, BOM preparation through factory testing and site commissioning support. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys custom machinery development and understands the challenges of abrasive bulk materials including aggregates, recycled fractions and mineral feedstock.
Key Responsibilities
Work with sales and application teams to clarify customer specifications, site constraints, material characteristics, throughput targets and safety standards for every custom project. Complete engineering feasibility assessments, load calculations, structural analysis, vibration analysis and component selection for screening, feeding and conveying machinery. Develop 3D assembly models and detailed fabrication drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD, produce full bill of materials, assembly instructions and technical documentation for our in-house manufacturing workshop. Review supplier component drawings, validate compliance with our design standards and coordinate with purchasing for wear parts, motors, gearboxes and structural steel. Participate in internal design reviews, resolve technical risks and propose cost-optimized alternatives without sacrificing equipment reliability or operator safety. Support factory assembly and performance testing, diagnose design-related issues during test runs and implement design revisions as required. Provide remote and occasional on-site technical support during customer commissioning, interpret feedback from field service technicians and continuously improve our standard product platforms. Maintain organized version control of drawings and engineering files, ensure all designs comply with Canadian industrial safety codes and industry best practices for heavy processing machinery.
Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an accredited program. Minimum 3 years of hands-on mechanical design experience for bulk material handling, aggregate processing, recycling or mineral processing equipment. Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, technical drawing standards, BOM creation and engineering report writing. Practical knowledge of vibrating machinery, conveyor design, wear-resistant materials, structural steel design and industrial drive systems is a strong advantage. Ability to perform basic mechanical calculations, understand vibration dynamics and evaluate fatigue risks for heavy-duty equipment. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills; comfortable communicating technical details with production staff, suppliers and international customers. Strong problem-solving mindset, careful attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple concurrent custom projects under competing deadlines. Commitment to safety-first engineering principles. Valid Canadian work authorization is required.
What We Offer
Competitive base salary plus performance bonus package, comprehensive health, dental and vision benefits, RRSP matching program, paid vacation and sick leave, and long-term career growth within our stable, family-rooted industrial manufacturer established in 1988. You will work in our Mississauga facility alongside skilled fabricators and service experts, with access to a fully equipped engineering lab and manufacturing floor. We support professional development, including industry training, technical conferences and skill upgrades. Our culture prioritizes teamwork, open communication and quality engineering over rushed shortcuts. If you are passionate about designing heavy-duty material processing systems that stand up to harsh industrial environments, we invite you to apply.
